W. Roderick Gagné is a partner in the Philadelphia office of Pepper Hamilton LLP. He concentrates his practice primarily on sophisticated tax planning for corporations, individuals and partnerships. In particular, Mr. Gagné has experience in the tax issues in asset-backed securitizations, derivatives and other highly structured and sophisticated financing transactions, taxation of pass-through entities, corporate mergers and acquisitions, state and local tax issues (sales and use tax, corporate income tax, capital stock tax, business privilege tax, realty transfer tax, real estate tax and Philadelphia taxes) and controversy, and succession planning for closely held businesses.
As a result of Mr. Gagné’s succession planning work, he has significant estate, gift and fiduciary planning experience in representing trusts and estates. He believes strongly in pro bono work and has provided wills, trusts and tax assistance to indigents and to nascent charitable organizations. He serves on the board of the Friends of the Farmworkers and is on the Vestry of Saint Paul’s Church.
Mr. Gagné lectures at tax seminars and has published several articles in tax journals.
Mr. Gagné is an active member of the American Bar Association Tax Section, and served as secretary of the Committee on S Corporation (1988 1990) and chair of the subcommittees on Publication 589 (1986 1990), Publications (1990 1992) and Newly Enacted Legislation (1992 1993). Mr. Gagné also is a member of the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations’ Sections of Taxation and has served on the Council of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Section of Taxation.
