Paul M. Richter Jr. is a partner in the Intellectual Property Department of Pepper Hamilton LLP, resident in the New York Office.
Mr. Richter has more than 20 years of experience in intellectual property law. He focuses his practice on litigating patent, trade secret and trademark cases as lead counsel in various federal courts, both at the trial and appellate levels. He also practices before the International Trade Commission. His patent litigation experience extends to many different practice areas, with particular emphasis in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemical and medical device industries.
Mr. Richter has extensive experience representing clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). He regularly handles inter partes reviews (IPRs) and reexaminations, and argues cases before the USPTO Board of Appeals.
Mr. Richter strategically guides his clients in developing and prosecuting global patent portfolios across a variety of industries. He works with foreign associates to develop and defend his clients’ foreign patent rights, including in opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office. Mr. Richter also counsels his clients and provides them with opinions regarding patent infringement, validity and enforceability issues. He is actively involved in the negotiation and licensing of intellectual property rights.
Before joining Pepper, Mr. Richter was a partner at Andrews Kurth Kenyon. Early in his career, he worked as a chemical engineer, where he carried out research and development activities in the high explosives industry.
