Laurence Z. Shiekman is of counsel with Pepper Hamilton LLP. He is an experienced trial lawyer who has spent a substantial amount of time on antitrust, intellectual property, securities and general commercial matters.
Mr. Shiekman has long been active in firm leadership. He chaired Pepper’s Finance Committee for 28 years, and was co-chair of the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department for over three years. He also was a member of the firm’s Executive Committee for six years and chair of the firm’s Trial and Dispute Resolution Practice Group for more than five years.
Mr. Shiekman has been a speaker at the National CLE Conference on discovery and class action litigation, arbitration and mediation, social media issues and other topics. He also has participated in several NITA-type programs teaching trial skills to fellow attorneys and served as an adjunct professor on the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he taught trial advocacy for four years.
Mr. Shiekman joined Pepper in 1975 and became a partner in 1978. He joined the firm following a two-year judicial clerkship with the Honorable A. Leon Higginbotham, Jr., and two years teaching law school at Florida State University College of Law.
