Michael A. Schwartz Elected to Defender Association of Philadelphia Board of Directors
Michael A. Schwartz of Pepper Hamilton has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Defender Association of Philadelphia, an independent, nonprofit corporation created in 1934 by a group of Philadelphia lawyers dedicated to the ideal of high quality legal services for indigent criminal defendants. The Board of Directors, composed of representatives from city government, the organized bar and the community, appoints the Chief Defender and the First Assistant and sets overall policy for the Association. Assistant defenders represent clients in adult and juvenile state courts, at civil and criminal mental health hearings, and as child advocates for dependent and neglected children.
Schwartz is a partner and co-chair of Pepper's Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department. He is a member of the firm's White Collar Litigation and Investigations, and Media and Communications Practice Groups. Schwartz focuses his practice in the areas of criminal defense and counseling, internal corporate investigations, corporate compliance programs and First Amendment matters.
