Kassem L. Lucas, a partner with Pepper Hamilton, will be receiving the Cecil B. Moore Award from Temple Law's Black Law Students Association (BLSA) at the 2018 BLSA Annual Award Ceremony taking place on April 19 in Philadelphia, PA.
The Cecil B. Moore Award is awarded to an African American attorney who is a graduate of Temple Law and BLSA alumni. The awardee is someone who is a champion of social justice. The awardee is also someone who is passionate about diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and who has contributed to equal access to justice for the black community and the community at large.
The selection process included requesting nominations from both the Barristers' Association and the Women's Lawyers Division. Mr. Lucas was a top candidate based on his support of and mentorship to Temple BLSA members, his accomplishments at Pepper Hamilton and in the legal profession, and his commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Mr. Lucas is a 2000 graduate of the Temple University School of Law. He started his legal career at Pepper Hamilton and became partner in 2010 practicing primarily in the reinsurance arbitration and insurance insolvency areas. In 2011, he was named Pepper Hamilton's Partner in Charge of Diversity. Mr. Lucas is in charge of Pepper Hamilton's firm-wide diversity initiatives and programs and also co-chairs the firm's Diversity Committee. His responsibilities include developing strategic initiatives to recruit, support, retain and promote attorneys from diverse backgrounds, maintaining diversity and inclusion as core values of the firm, and seeking opportunities to partner with the community and clients on diversity initiatives and business development. He also started and teaches a class at the University of Pennsylvania Law School entitled Diversity in the Legal Profession.
