Christopher S. Miller, a partner with Pepper Hamilton, a co-chair of the firm's Emerging Growth Group and chair of the Technology Practice, was quoted in the October 4, 2019 Philadelphia Business Journal article, "Why Philadelphia's Big Law Firms Are Betting on Small Startups."
Pepper Hamilton partner Chris Miller, who co-chairs the firm’s emerging growth practice group and leads its Startup and Early-Stage Entrepreneurial Development (SEED) program said law firms like his realize that the only way to compete in the early stage market is to have a program for them.
"It gives you credibility in the startup community," Miller said. "There are still only a handful of big firms really known for representing startups for a long time. But a lot of other ones now want to get into it because they see it as potentially lucrative. And they think they can’t get in without a hook of a program."

Pepper Hamilton’s Miller said large law firms start these programs to create a pipeline of client and business contacts that often endure past the lifecycle of the startup. One successful SEED graduate is Wes Kaupinen, CEO of Palvella, a life sciences firm founded three years ago to focus on rare diseases with no established treatments.
