Have you ever left your law firm laptop or your smart phone with business email in the back of a taxi? Or, have you worked on a brief or a term sheet at Starbucks while sipping a cappuccino? In this fast-paced world where we are always plugged in and accessing confidential client information on multiple devices, what are your professional responsibility obligations? Are you required to familiarize yourself with the available technology? Do you need to know the most secure avenues for access? Must you take any steps if there is a disclosure of client information?
In this CLE, our speakers will:
- Review the applicable Rules of Professional Conduct and ethics opinions which form the foundation for your responsibilities and why you need to know about the security of electronic transmissions
- Explain the variety of ways you can access your email and document management systems remotely, both from a personal laptop and smartphone device, while maintaining client confidentiality, including the most secure of the available options
- Answer some common questions about what you should do in a variety of situations including, for example, what to do if you leave your smartphone in a taxi, misplace it in your house, and how to access wi-fi securely in a public setting.
