Please join Pepper Hamilton and the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum for an intimate discussion on India’s economic outlook and what lies ahead from a growth perspective in the short and medium term with the upcoming 2019 elections. The Indian economy presents a mixed picture in the fifth year of the Modi government. While growth is on the mend and inflation is within the central bank’s target, the financial sector, particularly the banking sector, is going through a clean-up phase. In addition, external shocks (elevated crude prices, rising U.S. interest rates and trade protectionism) have become bigger in number and complexity, and India’s vulnerability to these shocks has risen with its rising current account deficit. How is India negotiating these shocks, and what about the domestic constraints India faces? More importantly what lies ahead in the short and medium run?
Dharmakirti Joshi, chief economist of CRISIL, will be our guest speaker.
