Sven Riethmueller is a partner in the Corporate and Securities Practice Group and Health Sciences Department of Pepper Hamilton LLP, resident in the Boston office. Mr. Riethmueller focuses his practice on U.S. and European domestic and cross-border technology and business transactions for clients in the life sciences, medical devices, digital health, software and IT, technology and other innovative industries. Mr. Riethmueller counsels clients in U.S. and cross-border technology transfers, licenses, research and development collaborations, strategic IP and technology acquisitions and divestitures, complex partnering agreements, strategic investments, mergers and acquisitions and other exit transactions. A key aspect of Mr. Riethmueller’s practice is the commercialization of intellectual property.
Mr. Riethmueller also serves as outside general counsel for U.S. and European companies and represents them in domestic and international joint ventures and strategic alliances, as well as in disputes and their resolution, particularly disputes involving intellectual property. He routinely assists his clients with a vast array of business-related issues, including day-to-day legal advice in commercial matters and business contracts.
Prior to Pepper, Mr. Riethmueller was a partner at Foley & Lardner in their Boston office, where he advised U.S. and European clients in the life sciences, technology and other innovative industries on domestic and cross-border technology and business transactions, and at Sullivan & Cromwell and Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in New York, London, and Frankfurt, where he practiced law in the areas of cross-border corporate finance, M&A, and advised on some of the largest European securities offerings. He also practiced as a commercial litigator for a number of years at a leading law firm in the southwestern U.S. In addition, Mr. Riethmueller served as vice president and general counsel to LION Bioscience AG, a publicly-traded global solutions provider for the life sciences industry, and was senior vice president and general counsel with Molecular Health, a precision medicine company in Boston and Heidelberg, Germany.
Mr. Riethmueller is a frequent speaker and commentator on legal and business matters and current affairs in the U.S. and their impact on European companies. He is a native German speaker.
