Michael A. Patané is of counsel in the Health Sciences Department of Pepper Hamilton LLP, resident in the Philadelphia office and specializes in Intellectual Property.
Mr. Patané is involved in projects from the early stages of development through clinical trials to product launch. Mr. Patané works with large and small clients, as well as individual inventors.
Mr. Patané has acted as in-house counsel to a large international pharmaceutical company. He was responsible for day-to-day patent prosecution and portfolio management; counseling project leaders and scientists on all IP issues; assessing patentability, validity and freedom to operate; conducting inventorship investigations; educating technical staff on IP issues, such as inequitable conduct, data mining and duty of disclosure; and conducting due diligence for internal analysis as well as for in-licensing or acquisition opportunities.
Mr. Patané’s experience spans the chemical and mechanical arts, including pharmaceuticals, time release formulations and coatings, semiconducting nanocrystals, nanoparticles, semiconductor deposition compositions and methods, bioadhesive films, catalysts and catalytic methods, batteries, lithium cells, surface and diffusion coatings, polymeric coatings, inorganic coatings, plasma surface treatments, insulative materials, polyurethane and polyisocyanate foams, laparoscopic instruments, air filters, vacuum cleaner filters and bags, papermaking fabrics, monofilament and composite yarns, carbon fiber reinforced plastics and extrusion dies.
Mr. Patané is admitted to practice in New York and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (he is not admitted in Pennsylvania).
