Joseph Holovachuk is an associate in the Intellectual Property Department of Pepper Hamilton LLP, resident in the Philadelphia office. His practice focuses on all aspects of intellectual property, Internet, and technology law, including patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, and open source software matters.
Mr. Holovachuk also is a registered patent attorney. In this regard, he provides services for clients such as patent procurement, patent opinions (including freedom to operate, non-infringement, invalidity, and patentability), due diligence, intellectual property counseling and portfolio management. His areas of expertise include Internet technologies, big data analytics, enterprise software systems, medical imaging systems, mobile device management and security, telecommunications, and computer hardware.
Before joining Pepper, Mr. Holovachuk was a patent attorney at a leading patent consultancy, where he identified, evaluated and prosecuted patent portfolios in a wide range of technological areas including client-server computing systems, computing device virtualization, low-powered computing devices, social networking and targeted advertising systems.
During law school, Mr. Holovachuk was a judicial extern to Hon. Juan Sanchez, Eastern District of Pennsylvania. As a judicial extern, he performed legal research and prepared memoranda on various federal and state law issues.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Holovachuk worked as a software engineer for more than seven years with Lockheed Martin. While at Lockheed, Mr. Holovachuk developed software for sea-based missile defense systems. In addition, he helped redesign legacy naval computing systems as part of the United States Navy’s Open Architecture program. Mr. Holovachuk’s efforts on this program focused on designing software interfaces to support open system design principles and selecting commercial off-the-shelf computing hardware for replacing proprietary devices.
