John R. Brancolini is a registered patent agent in the Health Sciences Department of Pepper Hamilton LLP, resident in the Pittsburgh office. Mr. Brancolini works closely with clients to assist in the identification and protection of their intellectual property both domestically and internationally.
Mr. Brancolini focuses on various patent-related matters including identifying novel ideas, prior art searching and evaluating, and patent application drafting, filing and prosecuting. Mr. Brancolini helps clients to develop and secure their intellectual property by acquiring patents in the health science, electrical and computer science fields. Specific areas of technical experience include medical devices, health care IT, machine learning techniques, telecommunications, cable and satellite video distribution, network protocols, data encoding standards, searching algorithms, virus recognition, biometrics, middleware, cellular device hardware and software, electrical circuits, motor controls, and Internet-related business methods.
Mr. Brancolini received his bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the University of Pittsburgh (B.S., cum laude, 2003), where much of his study focused on network protocols and telecommunications. Following his graduation, he worked as a patent examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Washington, D.C. from 2003-2005. Before joining Pepper, Mr. Brancolini worked as a patent agent with Synnestvedt and Lechner LLP from 2005-2008. Mr. Brancolini also worked as an in-house patent agent for a medical device manufacturer, specializing in cardiac monitoring and treatment devices.
