Hilary E. LaBar is an associate in the Health Sciences Department of Pepper Hamilton LLP, resident in the Philadelphia office. Ms. LaBar focuses her practice on the defense of pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers in products liability litigation in federal multidistrict and state coordinated proceedings. Ms. LaBar has experience in all phases of pretrial preparation, including drafting pleadings, discovery and document production, preparing company witnesses and sales representatives for deposition, evaluating and developing expert witnesses and dispositive motion practice.
In addition, Ms. LaBar provides regulatory and risk management counseling for pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers on compliance with FDA promotional requirements, state and federal laws and regulations, and risk mitigation related to product labeling and promotional claims. She also advises health care industry clients on issues impacting commercial health care transactions, including issues under the federal Anti-Kickback Statute, the False Claims Act, and federal and state fraud and abuse laws.
Ms. LaBar is the co-chair of the firm’s pro bono Landlord-Tenant Representation Project, where she represents low income clients facing eviction actions in Philadelphia Municipal Court. She is also a member of the firm’s Summer Associates Committee and an active participant in the Philadelphia Reads student literacy program.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. LaBar completed a judicial internship with the Honorable Gary L. Sharpe of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York, and served as a student attorney for the Syracuse University College of Law Disability Rights Clinic.
