A. Michael Pratt, a past chancellor of the 15,000-member Philadelphia Bar Association, is a partner in the Philadelphia and Harrisburg offices of Pepper Hamilton LLP, and a past member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Mr. Pratt has broad litigation experience in both federal and state courts, including bench and jury trials, and provides counseling to clients on a variety of issues. Mr. Pratt concentrates his practice in complex commercial, product liability and toxic tort litigation, representing industrial and product manufacturers, financial institutions, pharmaceutical companies, drug and medical device companies, insurance companies, hospitals and government institutions.
Mr. Pratt has spent most of his legal career at Pepper, except for two short stints: from early 1992 to mid-1994, Mr. Pratt served as chief deputy city solicitor in charge of the commercial litigation division for the City of Philadelphia Law Department; and in early 2002 to mid-2003, he served as chief litigation counsel for corporate and toxic tort matters for Honeywell International Inc., one of the world’s largest diversified technology and manufacturing companies. At Honeywell, Mr. Pratt was responsible for managing and coordinating the strategic and tactical defense of all of the company’s active nationwide asbestos liability, several securities class actions, insurance coverage and other commercial disputes.
He has co-authored several articles and publications and lectured on myriad legal topics, as well as serving as the keynote speaker for various events throughout his career.
In addition to serving as chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, Mr. Pratt was appointed by the governor to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, where he served six years as a commissioner, four of those as its vice chairman. He has held numerous other bar association, civic and community leadership positions, and received many honors and awards from professional and community organizations.
