Philadelphia, PA - November 15, 2012 – Pepper Hamilton LLP is pleased to announce that Philadelphia attorneys Amy B. Ginensky, Nina M. Gussack, and Barbara W. Mather have been honored in the first edition of Benchmark: Top 250 Women in Litigation. Pepper was the only Pennsylvania firm to have three of its partners named to the publication.

“We are proud of Amy, Nina and Barbara for earning this honor and are excited to see their efforts publically recognized,” said Pepper’s executive partner Robert E. Heideck. “They are leaders within our firm and in our profession and set a high standard of professional excellence for all attorneys here at Pepper.”

Those listed in the guide were selected from their respective states’ rosters of local litigation stars in the 2012 edition of peer-reviewed parent publication Benchmark Litigation. Benchmark Litigation is the only publication on the market to focus exclusively on litigation in the United States. The guide’s results are the culmination of a six-month research period for researchers to conduct extensive interviews with litigators and clients. During these interviews, researchers examined recent casework handled by the firms and asked sources to offer their professional opinions on litigators practicing within their state or national practice areas.

Ginensky is a partner in Pepper’s Philadelphia office, chair of the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group and the leader of its media and communications practice. She handles class action and commercial litigation matters, and has an active media and communications practice that focuses on First Amendment, defamation and other media-related areas. Ginensky is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. As chair of the Commercial Litigation Practice Group, Ginensky knows having women partners succeed encourages women associates, saying, “I just had a female associate tell me that this is really important to her and having female leaders is one of the reasons she chose Pepper.”

Gussack is a partner in Pepper’s Litigation Department and chairs the Health Effects Litigation Practice Group. She also is chair of the firm’s Executive Committee. Her trial practice is concentrated in civil litigation, with a primary emphasis in the defense of pharmaceutical and medical device companies regarding marketed products, investigational new drugs, medical devices and over-the-counter drug products. Gussack serves as national coordinating and trial counsel and as regional counsel in pharmaceutical litigation, including class actions and multi-district litigation. Mather is a partner in Pepper’s Philadelphia office and past chair of the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department. She is a trial lawyer with experience in professional responsibility and malpractice, antitrust, securities and corporate governance, and other commercial, as well as college and university law. Mather has been a lecturer in law for antitrust at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and taught appellate advocacy and legal ethics. She also served as city solicitor of Philadelphia, the chief civil lawyer in the city and head of the firm’s 100-member law department in Philadelphia.

In 2003, Pepper started Pepper WIN!, the firm’s Women’s Initiative and affinity group, to recruit, retain, promote and support women attorneys. WIN! sponsors several programs each year, including professional development training on topics such as communication and marketing skills.

Pepper is also a member of the Diversity & Flexibility Alliance. The Alliance is a national forum dedicated to the promotion and retention of women lawyers and work life control for all attorneys. The Alliance combines research-based organizational solutions and individual strategies for leveraging talent in the legal profession.

Pepper Hamilton recently earned Gold Standard Certification from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum (WILEF), a designation based on how firms compensate women and integrate them in top leadership positions. Pepper is one of only 50 firms to receive the certification from WILEF.
