Pepper Attorneys Host NJ LEEP Students

Pepper Hamilton hosted a site visit with student participants from The New Jersey Law and Education Empowerment Program (NJ LEEP) on March 12 in the firm’s Princeton office.

NJ LEEP is a nonprofit, community-based organization that provides law-related educational opportunities and academic skill building programs for urban youth in New Jersey.

During their visit, the group of high school students from Trenton’s Foundation Collegiate Academy charter school received a tour of the firm, met with several Pepper attorneys from different practice areas, who described the nature of their work, and had an opportunity to ask questions about what they learned. Students completed a questionnaire about the experience and received extra credits for their participation.

The visit was a kickoff to a program where Pepper attorneys go to the school to participate in the NJ LEEP sessions and assist students with their mock trial preparation, among other activities. In addition, the attorneys will mentor the students through high school—providing guidance about what they need to do to get into college—all the way through college and law school, if that is the direction in which they choose to go.

Pepper Hamilton partner Audrey D. Wisotsky was instrumental in establishing the relationship between NJ LEEP and the Princeton attorneys. “My colleagues and I are grateful to have the opportunity to invest in the future of New Jersey’s youth. We look forward to fostering positive relationships with the students and watching them progress.”

The NJ LEEP Program falls in line with Pepper’s diversity initiatives and programs, which include pipeline programs to help increase diversity in the legal field.

NJ LEEP is a community-based organization that empowers urban youth in grades eight to twelve from underserved neighborhoods in northern New Jersey to perform at high academic levels by building skills through law-related, mathematic, and other educational programs, developing the habits necessary for lasting success and community leadership, and offering exposure to role models who have achieved academic and professional success.
