Resolution Pointed to Increasing Pressures Placed by Turkish Tribunals on Criminal Defense Attorneys

Pepper Hamilton LLP
Philadelphia, PA – June 25, 2012 – Murray S. Levin, a partner with Pepper Hamilton LLP, co-chaired an effort to prepare and send a resolution to the government of Turkey at a June 9 governing board meeting of the Union Internationale Des Avocats (UIA) in Fez Morocco. Mr. Levin, who is a member of the UIA’s Governing Board and a presidential counselor, says the resolution, which passed unanimously, pointed to increasing pressures placed by Turkish tribunals on criminal defense attorneys, making it difficult and in some cases impossible for the attorneys adequately to perform their role and depriving defendants of a fair trial.
Mr. Levin concentrates his practice on medical device and pharmaceutical products liability cases and an array of commercial litigation matters, including those with an international cast.
The Union Internationale des Avocats, based in Paris, is the world’s oldest international lawyers association. Mr. Levin was president of its American chapter in 1995-96, and chair of its annual Congress held in Philadelphia in 1997.
