Pepper Hamilton Attorney Says “Solid Legal Foundation Necessary to Thrive”
Entrepreneurs Must Holistically Manage Unfamiliar and Interrelated Challenges
Pepper Hamilton, a long time trusted advisor to emerging businesses, has confirmed its commitment to the startup community by launching a new Emerging Company Program designed to provide affordable counseling to startups and early stage companies. Emerging businesses face countless challenges during their formative years. Entrepreneurs are forced to understand and manage often unfamiliar but interrelated issues such as business formation, capital raising, labor and employment, intellectual property and data security. Without a guide, many of these leaders—in industries such as life sciences, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, health care, food and beverage, IT, consumer electronics, and media, telecommunications and entertainment—will paddle down the wrong channel.
In response to these concerns, Pepper Hamilton has created a practical, responsive and cost-effective Emerging Company Program to help these companies navigate the uncertain waters. Pepper’s holistic approach combines the resources of an experienced, multi-disciplinary team into an affordable package for startups and early stage companies. The unique alternative fee structure includes access to essential legal documents and effective legal counseling. In addition, but for no additional charge, each company will receive mentoring in areas such as board development and management, business plan review, and investor relations.
What’s more, because access to capital is a key driver of success, Pepper will connect these emerging companies with potential investors and funding sources locally and across the nation.
Pepper Hamilton works with incubators and accelerators such as DreamIt, Good Company Group, Philly Fashion Incubator, First State Innovation, Start it Up Delaware, Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse and the Accelerator Fund to identify up-and-coming companies.
Christopher Miller, one of the leaders of Pepper Hamilton’s Emerging Company Program, specializes in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, securities, and technology law.
“Startups are often so eager to be first-to-market and attract investors that they forego seeking proper legal counsel,” Miller said. “An inadequate foundation can be the downfall of a potentially successful company. Our goal is to partner with emerging companies by providing them with a solid and affordable legal foundation and to develop a long term relationship.”
"It’s imperative in Greater Philadelphia—as well as across the nation—that we identify and support these rising stars as it becomes more evident that our area is a hot bed for new ideas. It’s an important ingredient for a growing region.”
Pepper Hamilton attorneys who regularly work in mergers and acquisitions, IP and private equity funds, deeply understand the core issues facing these emerging companies. The firm has created this multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach to provide strong legal counsel early in the company’s growth to serve as a foundation for future success.
