H. Peter Haveles Jr., a partner in the Commercial Litigation Practice Group of Pepper Hamilton, was featured in the May 10, 2017 Law360 article, "Pepper Hamilton Adds Bankruptcy Pro in NY."
Haveles said that highlights of his 37-year financial litigation career include representing ABN AMRO in the bankruptcy of chemical company LyondellBasell and, more recently, representing term loan lenders in the bankruptcy of oil drilling company Paragon Offshore PLC.
Haveles said that the company’s initial reorganization plan was a “house of cards” that wasn’t based on historic or realistic future results. Haveles said that working with his client, financial advisers and fellow bankruptcy partners to dig into corporate records and marketplace data resulted in an argument against the plan, which was ultimately adopted by the bankruptcy judge.
“In many ways, even though it happened in a very fast pace, I think it’s representative of what is a good and sound strategy to take toward any kind of financial trial,” Haveles told Law360. “You have to really spend the time in the business records and the facts to understand what’s going on.”
