Philadelphia - December 7, 2012 - Two years ago at the inaugural FashInvest Conference in New York City, the only conference of its kind in the United States, Pepper Hamilton partner Peter Wakiyama met Michael Bettua, founder and CEO of Max Mirani, a travel goods company specializing in innovative, space-saving luggage. At the time, Max Mirani was in the very early stages of planning to enter the travel goods business with new products. Since that initial meeting, Wakiyama has assisted Bettua with the company’s legal matters, and this year Bettua-along with 15 other select fashion/fashion-tech entrepreneurs-is ready to present his vision for the company’s continued growth.

He’s hoping to catch the eye of investors to help fund, grow and scale operations, including international expansion for the company’s flagship product, MOVE Mobile Closet, a patented luggage product which is setting the standard and receiving rave reviews from the traveler who wants extreme efficiency and functionality coupled with style. Wakiyama will be introducing the presenting companies, including Max Mirani, to the audience of potential investors.

FashInvest offers fashion/fashion-tech entrepreneurs high-level access to investors, service providers and operating executives, with the primary goals of fostering investment and strategic partnering opportunities. As traditional fashion continues to evolve and become more technology-driven, many companies are looking for capital to grow within the fashion industry.

“FashInvest is establishing itself as a thriving ecosystem, where fashion/fashion-tech startups can make the important connections they need to maximize their chances for growth and success,” Wakiyama, a partner in Pepper’s Intellectual Property Department and a member of the firm’s Emerging Growth Practice Group, said. “The founder of FashInvest, David Freschman, has a strong track record of organizing successful venture capital events and helping promising companies find the connections they need to grow and be successful. Pepper is thrilled to be part of this event and the FashInvest ecosystem, and it is exciting to see one of our clients, Max Mirani, in the spotlight this year.”

While Pepper Hamilton is a large national law firm with global clients, it has a history of extensive representation of entrepreneurs and emerging growth businesses and continues to value and grow those relationships across a wide range of industries.

Bettua said, “Our relationship with Peter and with Pepper Hamilton has been critical because of their strengths in intellectual property. Innovation and design are core to our model as a fast-growth emerging company, so having Peter and his team as a legal partner from an early stage has been very important to our growth.”

FashInvest Capital Conference 2012 will take place Wednesday, December 11, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Fashion Institute of Technology in the Katie Murphy Amphitheater (Seventh Avenue at 27th Street, New York, NY).
