Pepper Hamilton is proud to announce that Andrea Toy Ohta has been selected for the 2014 Fellows Program of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD), a national organization comprised of the legal profession’s top general counsel and managing partners. Pepper Hamilton has been a member of LCLD since its inception in 2009. Launched in 2011, the LCLD Fellows program is designed to increase diversity at the leadership levels of the nation’s law firms and corporate legal departments. Over the course of the year-long program, participants are challenged to improve their professional brand, build relationships that enhance professional development, participate in corporate learning experiences, and sharpen stewardship and leadership skills.
“It is an honor to be chosen as an LCLD Fellow and to continue my partners’ tradition of representing Pepper in this program,” said Ohta. “I look forward to the exceptional opportunities offered by LCLD, including the chance to learn from and network with colleagues from around the country, and to create new relationships for the firm as a whole.”
Ohta is a Commercial Litigation Practice Group partner in Philadelphia and focuses her practice on complex civil litigation and related white collar criminal matters and regulatory investigations, primarily in the life sciences and health care industries. Active in a number of professional organizations, Ohta served as chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Minorities in the Profession Committee (2004-05), and on the Asian American Bar Association of the Delaware Valley’s Executive Committee.
“We are extremely proud that Andrea has been selected for this honor,” says Thomas J. Cole, Jr., Pepper’s Managing Partner. “Andrea is a respected litigator and an experienced leader, and her involvement in the LCLD program will both enhance her practice and add to the quality of services we are able to bring to clients.”
Ohta is one of 170 attorneys from around the country who were selected as LCLD Fellows for 2014 – the largest class in the program’s history. She is also the fourth Pepper to be selected as a Fellow, joining Hyung P. Steele, partner in Pepper’s Health Effects Litigation Practice Group (2013), Isla L. Long, partner in the firm’s Commercial Insurance and Reinsurance Practice Group (2012), and Kassem L. Lucas, partner in the Commercial Litigation Practice Group and the firm’s Partner in Charge of Diversity (2011).
Ohta graduated, summa cum laude, from the University of California, San Diego in 1998 and received a B.S. in general biology and a minor in health care and social issues. She received her J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2001 and is a member of the Order of the Coif. Following her graduation from law school, Ohta clerked for the Honorable Ronald S.W. Lew of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
