Alva C. Mather, a partner in the Health Sciences Department of Pepper Hamilton and a co-chair of the firm's Cannabis Industry group, was quoted in the August 17, 2017 Law360 article, "Lateral Surge on the Horizon as BigLaw Gets Into Pot."
“For my practice, it’s not yet all that I do, but it’s a very fast-growing part of what I do,” said Alva Mather, co-head of Pepper Hamilton’s newly formed cannabis industry group.
Mather says her law firm concluded that the work individual firm lawyers were doing was substantial enough to formalize a cannabis industry group, which allows lawyers to coordinate various types of matters for clients such as regulation, banking, trademark or patent work, in a unified manner.
The group now has around 10 lawyers who work together to serve clients in the industry, Mather said.
Similarly, Mather cited her work for the alcohol industry, in which she’s had to obtain licensing and parse through complex regulation for her clients — skills she says can be easily applied to the cannabis industry.
