Leadership Council on Legal Diversity program builds relationships and leadership skills
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Philadelphia, PA (March 12, 2014) - Pepper Hamilton LLP is proud to announce that Keely Stewart has been selected for the 2014 Fellows Program of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD), a national organization made up of the legal profession’s top general counsel and managing partners. Pepper Hamilton has been a member of LCLD since its inception in 2009.
“We are extremely proud that Keely has been selected for this honor,” says Thomas J. Cole, Jr., Pepper’s Managing Partner. “He is an exceptional attorney and his involvement in the LCLD program will not only enhance his career, but will also add to the quality of services we are able to bring to our clients.”
A member of Pepper’s Corporate and Securities Practice Group, Stewart focuses his practice on transactional matters. He counsels private equity funds, health care companies, group purchasing organizations, nonprofit organizations and other businesses, with respect to a diverse range of mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, financings, business formation issues, strategic planning and general corporate matters.
Stewart joins a class of more than 170 attorneys from around the country who have been selected as LCLD Fellows for 2014—the largest class in the program’s history. Hyung P. Steele, partner in Pepper’s Health Effects Litigation Practice Group, is a 2013 Fellow, Isla L. Long, partner in the firm’s Commercial Insurance and Reinsurance Practice Group, is a 2012 LCLD Fellow, and Kassem L. Lucas, partner in the Commercial Litigation Practice Group and the firm’s Partner in Charge of Diversity, is a 2011 Fellow.
Stewart received his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School after earning an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois.
“I am honored to be chosen to represent Pepper Hamilton as a Fellow,” said Stewart. “I am currently a volunteer in LCLD’s national mentoring initiative and I am looking forward to this new endeavor. The LCLD Fellows program offers exceptional opportunities to learn from and network with some of the leading attorneys in the legal profession.”
Launched in 2011, the LCLD Fellows program is an ambitious, highly structured initiative built to increase diversity at the leadership levels of the nation’s law firms and corporate legal departments. Over the course of the year-long program, participants will be challenged to improve their professional brand, build relationships that enhance professional development, participate in corporate learning experiences, and sharpen stewardship and leadership skills.
“Our Fellows program is a unique learning experience designed to empower a new generation of lawyers,” said Brad Smith, LCLD Chair and Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Microsoft Corporation. “These talented individuals have been singled out for leadership by their organizations, and represent a broad spectrum of backgrounds that are as diverse as the country they serve.”
With 215 members, LCLD is a national organization made up of the general counsel and managing partners of the leading corporations and law firms in the country. The Fellows initiative is one of several launched by LCLD since the organization’s founding in 2009. Other programs include a national mentoring initiative serving more than 2,000 mentors and mentees, a 1L Scholars program involving more than 200 first-year law students, and special programming for members through CLE presentations and other platforms.
“We’re lucky to have an extraordinarily focused and committed membership,” said Robert Grey, Executive Director of LCLD. “All of us are eager for results and will persist until we see real changes in the makeup of the leadership of the profession.”
