Health Care Construction Projects: Avoiding Claims Through Better Coordination

In January of this year, following frantic talks and a public fight over who was to blame for delays costing close to $100,000 a day in lost revenue, Santa Clara County was finally able to reach an agreement and settle its dispute with Turner Construction Company regarding a $300 million hospital project in San Jose, CA.

The Santa Clara/Turner dispute is just one example of what is currently happening in health care construction. Many health care facilities are being built, but claims arise when projects are mismanaged or poorly designed, resulting in huge cost overruns.

Presenters on this CLE program will reveal what health care facilities and contractors need to know when involved in complex construction projects.

Key topics include:

  • Background, problems and outcome of the Santa Clara/Turner Construction dispute
  • Important considerations when managing a complex hospital construction project
  • Managing and allocating risks through contracts
  • Example contract provisions (e.g., performance obligations, liability limitations, etc.)

Presenters will share their opinions on these topics and will also be available to answer questions during the webinar Q&A session.

CLE credit available in CA, NY, PA, VA (pending), and NJ (through reciprocity).
