Sensitive corporate and consumer data have become a highly sought-after commodity, making both small and large businesses potential targets for an attack. With increasing amounts of data being collected, processed and transmitted, businesses need to be more vigilant about securing and protecting data. A data breach can lead to significant financial exposure and substantial reputational damage.
Increasingly, financial institutions, retailers and other businesses must face far-reaching legal consequences. New and ever-changing data protection laws in the United States and globally that regulate the collection, use and security of sensitive information create a complex set of obligations that can be difficult for companies to navigate successfully. Regulators now expect companies to take steps to protect against invasions, such as performing risk assessments of their data and their third-party relationships.
Solutions to these complex problems come from multidisciplinary teams. Our faculty will share their insights into preventing data breaches and minimizing exposure when breaches occur and personal information has been compromised.
