Dewey LeBoeuf Aftermath: Fiduciary Responsibilities of Legal Administrators, Association of Legal Administrators Conference and Expo
Pepper attorney Jay A. Dubow will be speaking at the 2015 ALA Conference & Expo on the session titled "Dewey LeBoeuf Aftermath: Fiduciary Responsibilities of Legal Administrators."
In early 2014, the U.S. law firm Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP filed for bankruptcy. Shortly thereafter, a Manhattan District Attorney released a 106-count indictment charging its chairman, executive director, chief financial officer, and client relations manager with grand larceny, fraud, and other felony charges. All eyes were on the firm as its demise unfolded publically. Following the firm's rapid demise, there are many lessons to be learned by the legal industry. Join this session to hear the events leading up to the demise, the bankruptcy, and the criminal charges alleged against certain of its top executives and staff. Get a primer on your fiduciary and ethical responsibilities, and learn what you need to know to protect yourself and your firm, no matter the circumstances.
Session Objectives:
- Determine your fiduciary responsibilities and the repercussions of not living up to them
- Assess how to avoid becoming involved in unethical behavior
- Identify the warning signs that there is a problem at your firm
- Describe the steps that can be taken when red flags or more serious problems arise
- Explain the steps that should be taken if governmental authorities contact you.
