In commemoration of Veteran’s Day, the CFA Society of Washington DC will be hosting a presentation by two distinguished disabled veterans to help us learn more about how we can assist the hundreds of thousands of disabled veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and now seeking to re-enter the society they have so ably protected. The conflicts of the last decade are unlike any other in American history. Due to the nature of the conflict involving the use of roadside bombs, and mitigated by excellent medical attention which allows the injured to survive the battlefield, roughly one quarter of those who have served are returning home with a permanent disability. Now they are attempting to re-enter society and take on meaningful employment to support their families and maintain their dignity.
The nonprofit Wall Street Warfighters Foundation provides a six month training program to identify, develop and place service disabled veterans in careers in the financial services industry. One of the speakers, Marine and two-time Purple Heart awardee Larry Doll, co-founded this organization with his former commanding officer, General Peter Pace, the first Marine to chair the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Mr. Doll is a local resident and heads several financial services firms he founded. The other speaker, Navy Lt. Cal Quinn is a Naval Academy grad and gridiron star and served in Afghanistan in the month immediately after 9/11. Injured on the battlefield, he faced a long recovery, graduated from the training program and has now undertaken a successful second career in equities.
Join us for this moving program and learn about how we can assist returning disabled veterans who seek meaningful employment in our profession. Hiring a veteran may be the best investment you ever made. The Wall Street Warfighters Foundation has received generous support from the CFA Institute and now the CFA Society of Washington DC. The event is being fully sponsored by Drexel Hamilton, and hosted by Pepper Hamilton. Pepper partner Gregory J. Nowak will present opening remarks.
