So, you're interested in a legal career in Washington, but you don't want to be just another cog in the wheel of a megafirm? Want challenging work in a firm where you'll go as far and as high as your talents allow? You've come to the right place.
Pepper's Washington office offers the best of two worlds. As an office, we're small -- with about 40 lawyers, you'll know everybody in no time.
As a firm, we're big -- 500 lawyers in 11 offices, representing top-drawer clients in complex and challenging matters throughout the country and the world. What does that mean for you? You'll be working on interesting and varied assignments in an environment very similar to that of a small "boutique" firm.
The work in Pepper's Washington office is remarkably diverse. Naturally, much of our work involves representing clients before the federal government. We have a very active environmental practice, for example, and we are one of the few firms in the nation with a comprehensive housing and community development practice, blending real estate, finance, construction and government contracts experience. We also have a thriving international trade and customs practice in Washington.
But the office is not strictly a federal practice. Our D.C. litigators help resolve all types of business disputes. The office is also home to a growing venture capital and corporate practice, and assists clients with all types of labor and employment law issues.
Our Washington lawyers recently represented:
-
a local university and hospital in defending a series of employment disputes
-
developers, managers, lenders and purchasers in several multifamily housing transactions
-
an employer in a federal criminal action involving alleged violations of U.S. immigration laws
-
a major medical device manufacturer in regional products liability litigation
-
a manufacturing firm facing environmental claims in Ohio
-
Internet, information technology and financial companies of strategies for protecting their intellectual property, including preparing and prosecuting patent applications
-
large public employee pension funds in connection with their investments
-
companies in patent litigation in California and Washington State
-
The Aleut Tribe of Alaska in successfully trying historic claims against the United States
-
an electric utility in connection with an antitrust investigation by the Federal Trade Commission, which focused on a proposed merger between another electric utility and a fuel supplier
-
an international telecommunications firm in a dispute with a Central American marketing agent
-
venture capital funds and Small Business Investment Companies in their organization and in financing dozens of technology businesses. Pepper has one of the leading SBIC practices in the nation.
