Pepper's Detroit office is a great place to build a legal career. The office offers you the best of two worlds. As an office, we're relatively small -- with about 30 lawyers, you'll get to know everybody in no time, and your work and talents won't get lost in the shuffle. As a firm, we're big -- 500 lawyers in 11 offices, working on complex matters for top clients across the country and the world. The practice in our Detroit office is remarkably diverse. Many of our lawyers enjoy national reputations -- our bankruptcy and reorganization group, for example, represents creditors, debtors, trustees and others throughout the country. Our venture capital practice includes a national focus on Small Business Investment Companies, a practice led by a Detroit partner.

Working with our other offices, we also assist clients located elsewhere who have business interests in a region that is home to more than 5 million people and several of the world's largest corporations. The "Motor City" is known worldwide for the "Big Three" automakers, but Southern Michigan is also a vibrant center for finance, retail, transportation, health care and technology industries. It also is a burgeoning center for international business - more than 700 foreign-owned companies have operations in the Detroit region. Pepper is one of the few law firms headquartered elsewhere with an office in Detroit, and of those few, ours is by far the largest and most comprehensive.

• the formation of a private acquisition company, its reorganization into a public company and its acquisition of businesses with sales in excess of $500 million
• organization of venture capital companies with assets in excess of $1 billion, and representation of such venture capital firms and large public employee pension funds in connection with their investments
• a national airline against defamation, invasion of privacy and tortious interference claims
• a national publishing company in successful defense of sex and racial discrimination claims
• two principal Detroit pension funds in their debt and equity investments in radio and television broadcast companies, in an aircraft financing, in a credit enhancement with respect to mortgage servicing and in an automotive venture
• the State Treasurer of Michigan in more than 20 private and public company venture capital investments
• a Fortune 100 company in the amendment of its trust indentures, registration statements, limited partnership interests and other matters related to its reincorporation for anti-takeover purposes in Delaware
• an international manufacturer of blood fractionated products as national products liability counsel
• a former U.S. Surgeon General as amicus curiae in the U.S. Supreme Court in a Michigan case concerning the constitutionality of drunk driving check lanes.
