Matthew J. Lund

Matthew J. Lund is a partner in the Detroit office of Pepper Hamilton LLP, concentrating in complex commercial and securities litigation, and labor and employment matters.

Mr. Lund has represented large and small corporations in commercial fraud, contract and business tort disputes and has defended executives in the country’s largest corporations. He has defended employment discrimination cases in several state and federal courts, and has lectured on the Americans with Disabilities Act and other employment law topics.

The following engagements are representative of Mr. Lund’s litigation practice:
  • counsel to executives in Fortune 50 companies defending claims of securities fraud, RICO violations, common law fraud and other business torts
  • counsel to an independent examiner appointed by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois to analyze public disclosures of a retailer in connection with an enforcement action filed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
  • counsel to largest creditor in multi-party dispute related to installation of wiring and electronic equipment throughout the Detroit Public School system pursuant to federal e-rate program
  • litigation counsel to major utility in a CERLA action concerning migration of hazardous substances at former manufactured gas plant site
  • counsel to Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive suppliers in numerous pricing and supply chain disputes
  • lead litigation and trial attorney in CERCLA cost recovery action involving migration of chlorinated compounds toward municipal drinking water supply
  • lead trial attorney defending corporation against claims under Michigan Consumer Protection Act involving alleged misrepresentations in the issuance of credit
  • lead counsel in commercial arbitration dispute involving purchase of multi-office physical therapy practice
  • successfully resolved claims in product liability action against tire manufacturer involving installation injury (Fleck v. Titan Tire Corp., 177 F. Supp. 2d 605 (E.D. Mich. 2001)).
Mr. Lund is a member of Pepper’s Pro Bono Committee and is the partner responsible for the pro bono program in the Detroit office. Under his leadership, the program is annually recognized in the State Bar of Michigan’s Circle of Excellence.

He serves on the board of directors of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association and is a past president of the Barristers of Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association. He also is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and serves on its United States Courts Committee. In addition, he is a member of the American Bar Association.

Mr. Lund is a member of the Michigan bar and has appeared before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the Central District of California and the Eastern District of Texas, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
