Barak A. Bassman
Barak A. Bassman is a partner in the Commercial Litigation practice group of Pepper Hamilton LLP, resident in the firm’s Philadelphia office. Mr. Bassman concentrates his practice in complex commercial litigation.
Representative engagements in which Mr. Bassman has participated include representing:
- a hospital in defense against monpolization claims brought by suspended physician
- a U.K. manufacturing company in federal and state antitrust class actions
- a major bank in an arbitration arising from sales of credit card portfolio
- a children’s hospital regarding payment disputes with Medicaid and commercial payors
- an Italian wine company in defense of contract and tort claims brought by former U.S. importer
- a truck manufacturer in defending against an antitrust and franchise case brought by a distributor; and in prosecuting counterclaims for trade secret theft and copyright infringement
- an automobile finance company in defending against a national breach-of-contract class action
- a mutual insurance company in defending against a class action claiming breach of fiduciary duty
- a client in defending against a shareholder derivative action challenging executive compensation and change-in-control agreements
- a health care company in responding to a federal grand jury investigation of price fixing
- an automobile finance company in a disparate impact class action brought under the Equal Credit Opportunity Act.
Mr. Bassman is the co-author of "Prompt-Pay Laws: Good in Theory, Poor in Practice," which was published in the October 8, 2003 issue of BNA's Health Plan & Provider Report.
Mr. Bassman is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Mr. Bassman is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
