Leadership
Many of Pepper’s diverse lawyers currently hold or held leadership positions in
and outside the firm and are active board members of affinity and community organizations. These include:
- a female partner was president of the Board of Trustees of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation in 2009-10
- a female partner was a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association's Board of Governors in 2008-10
- an African-American of counsel was a federal judge for more than 28 years, serving
on the bench of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania;
he was Chief Judge for seven years
- a female partner is chair of the Subcommittee on Best Practices for Women in the Legal Profession of the New York City Bar
- a female partner was elected in 2010 to the American Law Institute, joining other long-time members including female attorneys and attorneys of color
- a Chaldean-American associate served as a board member of the Chaldean American
Bar Association in Michigan; he chairs the mentorship committee of this association
- an African-American partner was chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association;
he led the 13,000-member association in 2008
- an African-American partner was the first person of color to serve as president
of the Pennsylvania Bar Association; he led the 29,000-member association in 2004-05
- an African-American associate (now a partner) was the first African-American to
chair the Young Lawyers Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association; he led the
5,000-member section in 1991
- one of our former attorneys,
an openly gay man, was elected to a full 10-year term on the bench of the Court of Common Pleas in 2009.
